Job Title: Senior Facade Consultant

Reporting to: Senior/Associate Business Leader
Responsible for: Facade Survey and Investigation Projects
Working Pattern: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours
Location: Ewell Office

Description of the role

  • The primary role is to carry out Facade Surveys and Investigations within Patrick Ryan Associates (PRA), prepare excellent reports for clients, manage client building portfolios and help with the forward movement of this business area.

  • We expect that the successful candidate will have a bachelors degree and professional qualification with a façade related professional body. A higher degree and chartered status would both be highly beneficial and will consider candidates qualified by experience.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in façade engineering is required for this post.

  • The role requires a very good and detailed technical knowledge in all aspects of facade engineering design and construction including, facade systems, bespoke facades, cladding components, cladding products, all materials used in facades, manufacturing techniques and construction methods.

  • Our reports are read at the highest level in client organisations and accordingly we expect nothing less than excellent report writing skills, with excellent use of English, good clear presentation of the facts and opinions, and the ability to communicate verbally in an easy and confident manner.

  • Experience working in survey and investigation is essential, together with experience working with contractors on the refurbishment and renewal of building façades.

  • As part of the job, the candidate will need to quickly understand the way in which the company conducts its business and become a functioning part of the company, blending in seamlessly with all existing company operations.

  • The successful candidate will enjoy assistance from and work alongside our marketing people and our Operations Manager.

  • Targets with regards to throughput of work will be agreed annually with the responsible person for this business.

  • Teamwork is an important principle and practice within PRA and the successful candidate must be able to work well with the rest of the PRA team.

Job Title: Senior Façade Engineer or Associate (Design) London Office

Reporting to: Associates and Directors
Responsible for: Facade Design and Project Management
Working Pattern: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours
Location: London Office

Scope & Purpose of Role

  • Engineering and management of façade design projects, large and small. These will include new build design as well as re-cladding projects. 
  • Expertise in façade engineering including structural design and thermal analysis will be a big part of the skill and knowledge set useful for this role. 
  • Project management experience would be valuable. 
  • Experience with a contractor would be valuable.
  • This role requires a highly developed set of design skills in all aspects of facade engineering including, glass, bespoke facades systems, curtain walls, rainscreen cladding systems, façade components and products, diverse variety of materials, manufacturing techniques and construction methods.  
  • As part of the job, the candidate will need to quickly understand the company business systems, management of our projects and work harmoniously with other staff in delivering service to our clients as part of our highly professional team. 

Responsibilities

  • Technical and engineering design input projects. 
  • Developing the PRA specifications and other technical data, together with other staff and the Director.
  • Leading and managing design projects, large and small.
  • Keeping a library of facade contractors and specialists in various areas.
  • Help in the creation of standard details and procedures.
  • When necessary, production of drawings using AutoCAD or other software.
  • Checking the work of our staff and external design and drafting consultants.
  • Finding new products and keeping our library of facade product information up-to-date.
  • Assisting the Directors and Associates with other tasks as required.
  • Visit sites during construction and report to client. The candidate may also be involved in the investigation and survey of façades as and when necessary.

There may be other items to be added to this list from time to time, and the candidate will have the opportunity to discuss the work with Associates and Directors the on a regular basis.  

Personal performance will be discussed at an annual performance review with a view to providing guidance, help and encouragement in moving forward in terms of performance and their own agreed professional qualification pathway.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical Architecture Subject.

High level of health & safety awareness.

Flexibility and the ability to take on varied tasks within the company.

Chartered Status through CIBSE, RIBA or IStructE.

Membership of the Society of Facade Engineering.

A Master’s Degree in a relevant subject.

KnowledgeVery good standard of written and spoken English. 
Relevant Experience

Demonstrate a good portfolio of façade engineering work.

Experience of liaising with team members of all levels within an organisation and effective teamworking.

Management experience on projects and within a company structure.

Working within a busy office.

Excellent organisational ability & attention to detail.

Ability to take direction from senior colleagues and directors and carry out tasks.

Demonstrate a level of confidentiality when dealing with clients.

Experience of guiding and assisting less experienced colleagues.

Experience of managing other facade engineers/consultants on projects.
