Structural Engineers Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency

It has been established that building and construction practices contribute to nearly 40% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions which are impacting destructively on our natural environment. The question being asked is 'how can our industry meet the ever increasing demands and requirement of our expanding society without pushing the Earth's ecological boundaries?

There needs to be a to be dramatic shift, industry-wide to strengthen our working practices and habits, to create structural engineering outcomes that have a far more positive impact on the world around us.

The Happold Foundation is spearheading multiple campaigns to unite engineering companies to ensure the sector is doing everything it can to minimise its impact on the environment. Patrick Ryan Associates along with other UK Engineering Practices are now a signatory on their first campaign  Structural Engineers Declare pledge committing to be part of a collaborative group striving to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
