Government Opens Cladding Safety Funding for Eligible Low-Rise Buildings

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has announced a new round of funding to help address serious cladding fire safety risks in residential buildings under 11 metres in height.

Delivered through Homes England's Cladding Safety Scheme, the funding fulfils a commitment made in the government's Remediation Acceleration Plan Update published in July 2025. The scheme will take a risk-based approach, with priority given to buildings identified as presenting the highest life-critical cladding fire safety risks.

Applications will open on 17 August 2026 and remain open for eight weeks with funding intended to support eligible low-rise buildings where cladding remediation is essential to ensure resident safety.

The government has reiterated that, in general, buildings under 11 metres are considered less likely to present widespread cladding fire safety risks. However, funding may be available where a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW), carried out by a suitably qualified professional in accordance with PAS 9980:2022, identifies unsafe cladding that poses a serious life-critical fire risk.
