Latest BSR Updates and Gateway 2 Approvals
Last week, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) published figures showing that the approval rate for Gateway 2 external remediation applications has reached 85% over the 12 weeks to 28 June.
This represents a significant improvement against the target of 65% by the end of 2026. However, as often discussed at our Façade Focus forums, the Gateway process continues to present challenges, with many project teams still experiencing delays as the industry adapts to the new regulatory framework.
Against this backdrop, we welcome the launch of the Building Safety Regulator's Remediation Toolkit, designed to help applicants navigate the building control process more effectively. By providing greater clarity on the information required before submission, the toolkit should support higher-quality applications, reduce unnecessary delays, and improve the efficiency of the approval process.
We are also delighted to have recently secured two further Gateway 2 Approvals with Requirements, enabling cladding replacement works to commence on two residential buildings. Achieving this important milestone allows these projects to progress into construction with confidence, ensuring that robust safety principles remain embedded throughout the design and delivery process.
The latest Building Safety Remediation data for May 2026 also highlights the scale of the work still ahead. There are now 4,411 residential buildings over 11 metres within the remediation programme (excluding social sector buildings recorded prior to December 2025). Of these, 2,331 buildings have either started or completed remediation works, while 2,080 are still awaiting the commencement of works.
The industry has made encouraging progress, but there remains much to do. We hope the new Remediation Toolkit will help all stakeholders deliver more consistent, successful applications, supporting the shared goal of making buildings safe for residents as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and quality.
